Stonepark Hockey Canada Skills Academy – Winter Session

Hi everyone,
I am sure people are looking forward to the upcoming holiday season, we all hope it is a relaxing and safe holiday for everyone in the Stonepark community.

As many of you are aware, Stonepark launched a Hockey Canada Skills Academy program this past October. We became the 4th school in the province to provide its students with access to this nationally recognized program. We have three sessions left with our grade 8 & 9 group. In late January the program for grade 7’s will be offered for 12 weeks.

The Stonepark Hockey Canada Skills program is open to all students, regardless of the level of hockey experience. The program is intended for athletes who want to improve their fitness levels and playing abilities through skills specific training. For some of our students this means that they will be introduced to the sport for the first time, while others will have an opportunity to possibly re-enter a sport they have left for various reasons. Finally, our experienced players will receive enhanced training and instruction. Research has shown that this type of program is a successful environment to engage youth at risk.

The students are exposed to important developmental skills of the game along while gaining valuable experiences in the areas of leadership, goal-setting, self-esteem, character development, nutrition, and fitness. The objective of the Stonepark Intermediate Hockey Canada Skills Academy is to provide students with opportunities to receive formalized hockey training, in an academic setting with a strong commitment to achievement in both areas. It is our belief that students participating in this program benefit in many ways.

We have still have a number of openings for grade 7 students for the program beginning in January and running into April. The cost is $150, and covers Hockey Canada insurance and all other costs of the program. Applications are available in the main office and on the link ( on the school website. The due date in January 11, 2019.
