Friday, May 31, 2019 – Day 4

Yearbook:

  • We have decided to honour our staff member, Josh Underhay, by adding a commemorative page to the yearbook. We are also including spring sports as well as semi-formal pictures, therefore the yearbook will be available mid-September. We will distribute the yearbooks at Birchwood and set a distributive date at the 2 local high schools. Any students leaving PEI should contact the office and leave a forwarding address.

Track and Field:

  • All Track and Field athletes please meet in the gym at break.

Football:

  • A huge Congratulations to the girls AA team who beat stonepark to finish the season undefeated!!!!!!!!!! Everyone played awesome and girls will practice next Tuesday to get prepared for playoffs.

Thursday, May 30, 2019 – Day 3

Girls softball:

  • There will be a team meeting upstairs in grade 7 room 304 at break to discuss team availability for make-up games next week. Bring your snacks ladies!!

Wednesday, May 29, 2019 – Day 2

Outdoor adventure club:

  • With the weather looking nice, the outdoor adventure club will be going discgolfing Thursday after school. Members wishing to attend are reminded to bring their permission forms and attendance fee.

Football:

  • Congratulations to our girls A football team last night on a great effort in 3 back to back games.  Special mention to Grace Bulger who subbed in for the quarterback for all three games. No practice today.

Girls softball:

  • The girls turned in another impressive all around performance, picking up the win defeating East Wiltshire yesterday afternoon by a score of 14-7.  Neely Johnston turned in yet another strong pitching performance and was backed by timely hitting.
  • The girls are back at it this afternoon as they travel to Stonepark.  First pitch is at @4:30pm
  • There will be a team meeting upstairs in grade 7 room 304 at break.  Bring your snacks ladies!!

Flag Football:

  • A boys have two games today in Cornwall, 3:40 & 4:30.

Band:  

  • Grade 7 band at lunch today.
  • The grade 8 students who play with the grade 9 band will meet for rehearsal today during second period.  Thank you to teachers for allowing these students to attend.

Tuesday, May 28, 2019 – Day 1

Girls softball:

  • The girls turned in an impressive all around performance, picking up the win defeating East Wiltshire yesterday afternoon by a score of 10-3.  Neely Johnston turned in another gutsy pitching performance and was backed by solid defence and timely hitting.
  • The girls are back at it this afternoon as they host East Wiltshire @4:30pm
  • There will be a team meeting upstairs in grade 7 room 304 at break.  Bring your snacks ladies!!

Boys Football:

  • The A boys will be practicing today from 3-4
  • The AA boys have two back to back games in cornwall today against Francois Buote and The Mount.
  • There will be a quick team meeting in the outside the gym at Break!
  • Pm announcements Please allow the boys on the AA team to be dismissed at 2:50 to go to their game good luck boys! Girls football:

  • A girls have three games tonight at Francois Buote. 6:00, 6:50 & 7:40
  • Girls are asked to arrive at the field by 5:40.  Please dress appropriately for cooler weather. Parents are responsible for pick up after the last game.
  • AA Girls will practice today after school

Track & Field

  • Congrats to all members of the Track and Field team who participated in yesterday’s zone meet!  For all top 2 relay teams and top 4 finishers in the individual events, you have advanced to this weekend’s provincials.
  • All finalists – please meet in the gym at break to get a schedule from Ms. Morrison and arrange some practice times for the remainder of the week.

Athletic Fees:

  • Please remember to get your athletics fees into your coaches, players!  We have 26 athletes from the spring sports who still owe!

Band:  

  • Jazz band meets at lunch today.

Monday, May 27, 2019 – Day 6

Outdoor adventure club:

  • The outdoor adventure club will meet today at 1215 in room 225 to discuss this week’s outing. All members interested in discgolf and rock climbing must attend. As always new members are welcome.

Track & Field:

  • Everyone going to track and field – please come down to the gym after announcements.  Make sure you get the work you will miss!

Flag Football:

  • No A or AA Boys Flag today.

Girls softball:

  • The girls travel to Cornwall today to take on East Whiltshire if the weather permits. Early dismissal is required at first pitch is at 4:00pm – team members are to be dismissed @ 2:30 and meet at the gym exit @ 2:40.

Band:  

  • Grade 9 band meets tomorrow morning at 7:45am.
  • Jazz band meets at lunch tomorrow.

Frances Ann Squire – Prime Minister’s Award (PMA) for Teaching Excellence Recipient

As you know, Birchwood Teacher, Frances Ann Squire has been awarded the 2019 Prime Minister’s Award (PMA) for Teaching Excellence. This is the national-level award which means that Frances Ann is among the best teachers in Canada. Having a teacher win a PMA, particularly the national-level award, is a tremendous honour and a proud moment for our school, its students and their parents. Friday, May 24, 2019 – Day 5

Grade 9 Semi Dance:

Girls Softball:

  • The girls turned in a solid effort yesterday, coming from behind in the 7th to force extra innings, ultimately ending up on the losing end of a 4-3 score in what was a very close game.
  • There will be a meeting this morning at break upstairs on grade 7 floor in rm 304
  • Bring your snacks, ladies!

Girls Flag Football

  • Girls AA flag football team extended their unbeaten record to 5-0 yesterday against EWS and The Mount.  Keep up the fantastic effort girls.

Wrestling:

  • Awesome turnout at wrestling today!  Absolute last call to order shirts. The order is being placed today.  Keegan Murphy and Jenson Beach, please see Ms. Morrison

Swim day today for those students who participate in the CARI swim program. Teachers, please allow those students to leave class at 9:10.

Girls Flag Football:

  • Girls A flag football won 2 of 3 games last night! The team played exceptionally well. Special shout out to Margarite and Lauren for they played awesome. Practice today from 3:15 – 4:00
  • Girls AA:  Good luck to Girls AA team in their games today.  Please dismiss girls at 2:50 so they can be at the field on time.
  • Boys AA practice indoors 3-4 practice will be strictly running routes and cardio bring water!
  • Please get your athletic fees in to your coaches.

Grade 9 Semi Dance:

  • Grade 9 Semi-formal ticket sales will happen again today (Wednesday) in the lobby at lunchtime. Tickets are $20 and tickets will not be sold the evening of the event. This is a “participate at your own risk event”. “Parent volunteers are needed in order for the event to take place”.

  • Girls A flag football 3 games at F. Buote.  Please dress warm with tights and long sleeves under jerseys.  Parents are responsible for taking you there and pick up. Please be there by 5:40 for warm up.  Games: 6:00, 6:50, 7:40
  • A boys flag football play today at 3:40 good luck boys
  • AA boys flag will practice indoors tomorrow please bring water for this practice
