Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 – Day 2

Outdoor Adventure:

  • Reminder all outdoor Adventure club members meet in the cageteria no later than 3:10 after school.

Hockey Academy:

  • Hockey Academy for grade 8/9 students today.

Duke of Edinburgh: 

  • All Duke students are asked to attend a meeting to learn about the Online Record Book on Friday at 1pm in Room 225 (Mr.Beaton’s room). A Duke of Ed volunteer rep will be coming to get you started and  answer any questions.

Band:

  • Grade 7 band today at lunch

The COBRAS swept Stonepark yesterday!

Volleyball:

  • Boys played very well and were victorious over Stonepark last night! Practice today at 4:30pm
  • Girls won vs Stonepark 3-0
  • Girls A practice today 3:00 – 4:30.

Soccer:

  • AAG won 3-0 vs Stonepark.  Goals were scored by Maiya Chaudhary, Rayann Ferguson and Zoe Olscamp.  Abby Redmond had a strong game in goal and the girls had several other quality chances to score.  Way to go! Practice today 3-4 in the caf. Bring your sneakers! We have finished the regular season at 2-2-1.  Practice and playoff schedule tba.
  • AG are closing the gap but fell 4-0 to Souris, practice today from 3:15 to 4:30.
  • A combo of A and AA Boys had a convincing victory over the Mount.  Nathaniel Stuit had the first goal and Arun Darjee put the victory away with 2 goals.  Natan was between the pipes!

Girls Field hockey:

  • Girls beat Stonepark 2-0!
  • Game today in Montague at 4:00. Please excuse girls at 2:40

Cross Country

  • Students who will be travelling to Cross Country provincials this weekend, please meet in Mr. Brioux’s room at break.

Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019 – Day 1

Fundraiser :

  • Recipe in a Jar: Paper forms and money are due today. Please turn into homeroom teacher. We will extend homeroom 5-10 minutes for teachers to complete the tally form. A leadership student will be by to collect the tally form and envelopes with money and paper forms. Online sales close Thursday, October 17!

Outdoor Adventure: 

  • The outdoor adventure club will have a meeting today at 12:15 in Mr. Dohoo’s room, room 237, to discuss this weeks outing. New members are always welcome.

Band:

  • Grade 7 band tomorrow at lunch.

Future Goals:

  • Future goals today in room 311 after school.

Volleyball:

  • Boys – Game today at QC @ 5:30
  • There’s been a change – Girls game is now at HOME.  We are hosting Stonepark at 4pm

Soccer:

  • AAG travel to Stonepark today.  Please meet in the gym at break to discuss transportation.
  • Boys soccer exhibition game today vs The Mount.  Meeting at break in the gym.
  • Girls A Soccer – home game today vs Souris at 4:30. Please be dressed and at the field no later than 4:10.

Girls Field hockey:

  • Game against Stonepark at 3:30. Please excuse girls at 2:45. Could all girls meet in Mme Walsh’s room at break.

Wrestling

  • First practice will take place in the cafeteria on Monday, Oct 28.  Practices will run Mon and Wed for Oct and Nov. All are welcome. We will add Thursday practices in Dec.

Library: 

  • Next week we will be celebrating, “PEI School Library Week” so keep listening to announcements for information on some fun activities that will be taking place! Could all library monitors please meet in the library at break.

Sports Notes

Soccer:

  • The AA Girls team traveled west to play a game we won’t soon forget.  Chloe Campbell scored on a penalty kick, her second one this week! A solid effort by everyone despite the loss 2-1.
  • Practice today until 4:15pm.  Avery Neale – please see Ms Morrison in the gym right after announcements. Chloe Campbell, please see Ms. Morrison at break!
  • Girls A Soccer team will practice 3:15-4:30 today
  • AA Boys practice today ask 3-4:30.

Field Hockey:

  • Practice at Birchwood – 3:00-4:00

  • Boys A Soccer team kicked it into high gear last night as they defeated Morell 6-1.  Laith led the way scoring a hat trick. Geo scored 2, and Gabe rounded out the scoring.  Ryland and Amin controlled play in the middle of the field, while Will, Carter, Adnan, and Houzaifa provided the team with some solid defence.  Jack Hansen was also flying around the field in the win. Practice today after school.
  • Girls A soccer team will practice today from 3:15 to 4:30
  • AA Girls tied 1-1 on a penalty kick, scored by Chloe Campbell.  The girls should leave class at 2:20 to get ready to travel to their game at Hernwood.

  • A Girls soccer will have an indoor practice after school today please meet in the library at break for a short meeting.

  • Game against QC at 3:30 in Cornwall. Please dismiss girls at 2:45.

Monday, Oct. 7, 2019 – Day 3

Outdoor adventure club:

Duke of Edinburgh

  • Ms.Dunn wants to say congratulations to all of the students who completed the Adventurous Journey bike ride Thursday and Friday. We had cold, wind, and rain and the students persevered! A big thanks to Mr.Murphy, Ms.MacNevin, and Ms. Michelle MacDonald for all of your work.

Fundraiser :

Volleyball:

  • It was a great weekend for volleyball!  Thanks to the coaches, parents and fans for their support over the weekend.
  • Birchwood had 31 girls participating in the Queen Charlotte tournament this weekend!  BW2 defeated the 1st place team in round robin play to advance to the semi finals, while the BW1 team finished 1st in their pool and  handily defeated the 4th place team to advance to their semifinals. Hard fought games for both AA teams – but fell short in the semi finals.  The A team won their first set! They played their first games ever and lost in the semi final of the A division by 3 points. A solid effort by all!
  • The boys team went to ME Callaghan and came home with a team award “Most Enthusiastic Team” – a first for the Cobras since 1991!

Soccer:  

  • Thanks to all the Cobras who came out to the UPEI games yesterday.  It was a great afternoon of soccer!
  • AA Girls practice 3-4:30.  2 games this week: Tues @ QC and Wed @ Hernwood.  We need one or 2 more volunteers to drive to Hernwood.  Thanks in advance!

  • Shout out to the Intermediate boys team on their Silver medal yesterday. Team members include Connor MacFayden, Sam Murnaghan and Jack Hooley. In individual play, Connor won Bronze! Ashlyn Gamester placed 4th in Intermediate Girls.

Volleyball:

  • Game day! Girls AA team plays Queen Charlotte today at Queen Charlotte at 4:00. Please meet at the gym doors at 3:00.
  • Game day! Boys AA team plays Queen Charlotte today at Queen Charlotte at 5:30.

Soccer:

  • Good luck to the A girls and A boys soccer teams travelling to Souris today by bus. Be ready to leave by 3:30 and make sure you arrange pick up at Birchwood for 7pm!

  • Congratulations to the AA girls.  HUGE win over Stonepark 3-1 last eve!
  • Both Girls A and AA teams will be practicing at 3:-4:30 today.
  • Boys AA team will be practicing from 4:30-5:30 today

Soccer:

  • A Boys and Girls Soccer teams are traveling by bus to and from Souris on Thursday, departing the school at approximately 3:30.  All players are to be picked up at Birchwood after the game (approximately 7pm). Players will notify their parents will leaving Souris.
  • A big congratulations to the A Girls soccer team for their amazing start to the season, winning 2-1 against Gulf Shore. Congrats to Keili and Taylor on their goals!  Penny had an awesome game in net. Please meet at the gym at break to get a notice regarding tomorrow’s game in Souris. There was a jacket left at the field in Gulf Shore. If this is your jacket, please see Mrs. Bernard on the grade 7 floor. There will be a practice today from 3:15 to 4:30.
  • A Boys soccer team lost a close game 4-3 as they hosted Gulf Shore.  Even though Gulf Shore kept the lead, the Cobras kept fighting back. Geo scored his first of the season in the first half.  In the second half, Laith scored at the 52nd minute, and Ethan scored on a penalty shot to keep the team close. Very good team effort and it looks like the boys are almost playoff ready.  Please meet in the gym at break to get a notice. Practice after school today.
  • CONGRATS to the AA Girls team, winning 6-1 over their rivals, Summerside Intermediate!  The Grade 7 players had a very solid game with Lilly MacVicar scoring 3 goals and Miaya Chaudray with one.  Rayann Ferguson and Avery Neale scored as well. All players had a strong game – this could be the biggest margin of victory in Cobra girls soccer history!
  • Practice today.  No game on Thursday.  The game at Hernwood has been rescheduled to October 9th
  • Girls field hockey:
  • Congrats to the girls, winning 1-0 over EWS. No practice today.

Cross Country:  

  • Congrats to all the Cobras to competed in yesterday’s Zone 3 Cross Country meet.  Highlights include:
  • Will Landry 2nd, Leo Phelan 6th, Brooke Walsh 1st, Bella Doyle 2nd, Lilly MacVicar 6th
  • Provincials are October 19th at Mill River.

Hockey Academy
