Jan. 26/22

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are so excited to welcome back our students at Stratford Elementary! In preparation of our return on January 31st, please carefully read the test/mask distribution details below.

We have received the COVID-19 test kits and masks from the Government of PEI and they will be ready for pick up on Thursday January 27th and Friday January 28th. Please see the details below.

Students will be provided five tests this week to allow them to test before returning to school and during the first week. Additional tests will be supplied next week.

Unless there is an approved exemption, all students, staff, and visitors are required to wear masks in all indoor areas of school facilities, including in classrooms, while transitioning between classrooms and other school areas, staff areas, and while on school buses.

Masks will be provided. Please note that we will be following up with further information regarding additional mask supply later this week. We ask that each student put their name on the inside of their mask.

Testing Requirements

As outlined in the revised Back-to-School Guidelines provided by the Chief Public Health Office, all students should take two rapid antigen screening tests, 48 hours apart (i.e. two days before and the morning before leaving for school).

If both tests are negative, the student may attend school. If either test comes back positive, the student must visit a testing clinic at the earliest opportunity. They cannot attend school until they’ve received a negative result from a testing clinic. Drop-in testing clinic hours: https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/health-and-wellness/covid-19-testing-in-pei

Students should test at home the mornings of Saturday, Jan. 29 and Monday, Jan. 31 before leaving for school. They should then test at home the mornings of Wednesday, Feb. 2 and Friday, Feb. 4.

Going forward all students should test at home on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week for the next two weeks (Feb 7, 9, 11 and 14, 16 and 18). In the event there is no school on any of these dates, children should maintain the testing schedule.

Test results do not need to be reported to the school.

Here is a short video that may be helpful when testing your child for COVID-19.

When to pick up your student’s tests and mask

Parents/guardians can pick up their child’s test kits and mask at the school during the following times:

Thursday January 27th- 8:00-12:00    (Students last name A-L)

                                                12:00- 4:30    (Students last name M-Z)

Friday January 28th-     8:00- 12:00     (Students last name M-Z)

                                                 12:00- 4:30      (Students last name A-L)

Our pick up area for the tests/masks will be in the student drop off lane (main door area). Staff will be on hand outside to pass you a package. Please remain in your vehicle and wear a mask during the exchange.

If there are extenuating circumstances that prevent you (or the student or another designate) from being able to pick up kits and a mask, please reach out to the

school to discuss alternatives.

For parents who have students at more than one school, they are asked to pick up the tests and masks for their students at each school. Schools are being allocated the appropriate number of test kits and masks for their student population and won’t be able to provide additional supplies beyond their students.

Students are expected to remain home until they are free of symptoms.

In addition, if you have traveled outside regions as per the current CPHO guidelines, you are asked to declare this to the school, and follow the current CPHO measures in place at the time (e.g. self-isolation).

If your child shows one or more symptom while at school, you will be asked to pick your child up.
