Welcome to the 2016-17 Public Schools Branch School Year

Dear Students, Parents and Employees:

Welcome to the 2016-17 Public Schools Branch (PSB) school year!

The buses ran and the school bells rang yesterday morning as approximately 19,000 students in kindergarten through Grade 12 entered for the first time or returned to class for the 2016-2017 academic year.

The beginning of school is an exciting time not only for our students and parents, but also for all our PSB’s employees at our 56 Island schools. Our employees are highly qualified professionals who care deeply about the success of children, and the tremendous support from our parents, volunteers, and community partners makes our schools even better.

The summer months are always a very busy time for school staff and Branch based staff, and this summer was no exception. To prepare for the new academic year, school buildings were cleaned thoroughly, buses were inspected, new employees were hired, teachers and other employees participated in professional development, and repairs and improvements were made at many schools. Thank you to everyone involved in the important efforts to get us ready for school yesterday.

With the new school year getting underway, we invite parents to learn more about the Public Schools Branch schools by visiting the PSB website and your child’s school website for the latest school news and information.

Everyone at the PSB is looking forward to the 2016-2017 academic year with enthusiasm and optimism. Best wishes to all students, parents and employees for a successful school year filled with many excellent learning opportunities. When educational partners work together, we have the best chance to succeed in providing high quality educational experiences for our students.

Public Schools Branch Logo Contest

What does it mean to be a public schools branch?  How do we define ourselves and what do we look like?  The Public Schools Branch (PSB) is beginning as an entity without a logo, symbol, or brand.  Instead of developing our logo through an agency, we decided to go ‘grass roots’ and inspire the young people we serve to provide us our logo – our students!

The Public Schools Branch Logo Contest will be open to any PSB student.  The contest starts September 6 with entries being accepted until 4 p.m. on September 21.  Student logo entries can be submitted by email to psb-input@edu.pe.ca or mailed to one of the following addresses:

Logo Contest Committee
Public Schools Branch
PO Box 8600
Charlottetown, PE  C1A 8V7
Logo Contest Committee
Public Schools Branch
250 Water Street – Suite 201
Summerside, PE  C1N 1B6

A Logo Contest Committee will select 5 finalists who will be awarded a pizza party for their homeroom class, sponsored by Domino’s Pizza.

The selected 5 designs will be reworked to ensure consistency in presentation and will be displayed on the Public Schools Branch website.

Students and staff will be invited to vote for their top choice for the Public Schools Branch logo.  Voting will take place electronically on the Public Schools Branch website from October 10 to 21.  The winning artist will win a bike, sponsored by Canadian Tire, Charlottetown.

Our new logo will be announced later in October.
