As we approach the start of another school year, we eagerly look forward to welcoming our Birchwood students back! Orientation can be overwhelming for new students during a normal back to school year; therefore, with our current situation we feel that the grade 7 students have an orientation day by themselves.
The original plan was to have grade 7 orientation day on September 1st. This has now been changed.
On Tuesday, September 8th we will welcome our grade 7 students only. This day will allow grade 7 students to familiarize themselves with our daily routines as well as the guidelines laid out in Birchwood’s Operational Plan for Covid-19. A more detailed explanation of the day will be sent out later this week.
Our grade 8 and 9 students will have their first day on Wednesday, September 9th and will receive their orientation at that time.
We look forward to getting the school year underway and working with all of you.
The following supply list has been updated for classroom learning. Please see link below.

The 2020 school year is fast approaching and everyone is excited about having students back in the classroom. The Birchwood staff has been working hard to plan for a safe and efficient return to school. We will be sending out detailed information on a variety of topics in the coming days but wanted to first update you on our upcoming school tours.
For our incoming grade seven students, we will be having optional grade seven student tours on September first. Students will meet their homeroom teacher who will take the students on a tour of the building and familiarize them with intermediate school routines. The times for the tours are as follows:
- Cohort 7A/7B – 12:30PM – 12:50PM
- Cohort 7C/7D – 1:00PM – 1:20PM
- Cohort 7F/7G – 1:30PM – 1:50PM
- Cohort 7H – 2:00PM – 2:20 PM
- You will receive an email stating which homeroom your child is in. If you do not receive an email, please contact the school office at (902) 368-6870.
For the tours, we would ask that parents drop students off in the back parking lot near the gym where they will meet their teacher and other support staff. Please remain in the area during the tour as you will need to pick up your child promptly in order for the next tour to start. Students should remain in their vehicles until prompted by staff. Students who walk should remain on the sidewalk and not enter the building until directed by staff.
Please have a conversation with your child about the importance of handwashing and physical distancing when possible. We would ask that students wash their hands before arriving at school. As a reminder, if you are experiencing COVID symptoms please do not attend the tour and contact 811. We strongly recommend that students wear a non-medical mask during the tour as they will be moving throughout the building and visiting common areas within the school. We will have extra masks and sanitization stations in each cohort entrance/area.
We look forward to seeing our new Cobras September first!
