Orange Shirt Day:

  • In honor of Orange shirt day, Roisin Mullen from homeroom 8F,  has displayed some of her artwork in our lobby for students and staff to view. Thank you to Roisin for sharing her creative talent.

Outdoor adventure club:

  • The outdoor adventure club will meet today at 12:15 in Mr. Dohoo’s room 237. All members interested in this week’s outing must attend. New members are always welcome.

Fundraiser :

  • Recipe In A Jar fundraiser is underway. Let’s make sure we hit our goal of 2000 jars sold. For every jar sold, a meal is donated to a local charity. Let’s get those 2000 meals!!! Prizes for the top seller and top three classes in each grade. Tomorrow will be our first check in for sales, so please have that total for your homeroom teacher.

Band:

  • Grade 9 Band meets tomorrow morning at 7:45am for rehearsal. Classroom codes for Google Classroom for all band classes will be listed on the white board in the band room by lunch today.  Your first skill is due this Friday.

Golf:

  • Meeting today in Mr. James’ room at break to discuss drives to provincials on Wednesday.

Volleyball:

  • Boys practice right after school today from 3:15 – 4:30 pm
  • Girls A practice 3-4:30, AA at 4:30-6

Soccer:

  • Boys AA soccer practice today after school. 3-4:15.
  • Boys A soccer team has a practice today after school 3-4:15  Please hand in any remaining fees and forms to Mr. Chaisson at the morning break.
  • Girls A soccer team has a practice today after school 3:15-4:30

Girls Field hockey:

  • Practice 3:00-4:30

Cross Country:

  • Students who will be participating in the zone cross country meet tomorrow, please meet in Mr. Brioux’s room today at break for a meeting.

Leadership:

Grade 9 Cobra Parents

Grade 9 Cobra parents,
As you know, we will be once again, traveling to Ottawa and Quebec city this winter. Thank you for attending the meeting about the itinerary and the upcoming payments.
A reminder the first payment, $350, is due FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4. At this time, you may also purchase insurance, $72, which we highly recommend. Payments can be made online through e-tansfer at birchwood@edu.pe.ca, or by cash or cheque to the homeroom teacher. All cheques payable to Birchwood School.
Once we confirm the total number of students attending, we will be able to solidify a total cost for the trip.
We look forward to a fantastic cobra experience!

  • Grade 9 sales go toward individual cost of grade 9 trip

Outdoor Adventure:

  • A big shout out to the members of the outdoor adventure club who braved the rain to pick and donate over fifty pounds of apples to the breakfast program yesterday!

Terry Fox:

Volleyball:

  • Girls Volleyball – AA Girls have a game today at East Wiltshire, please meet at the gym doors at 2:45.
  • A Girls Volleyball will practice Monday 3-4:30. Final team will be posted today before lunch in gym area.
  • Boys Volleyball – Game today at 5:30 pm against ME Callaghan.

Soccer:

  • AA Girls Soccer –  The following players must hand in their forms today before they have permission to play in today’s game:  Rayann Ferguson, Ryan McAlduff, Emma Fisher, Avery Neale, Emma Giddings.
  • Please travel to East Wiltshire w/ your assigned drive.  Cabs will be here shortly after 3pm to travel to East Wiltshire.  Berni will hand out your uniform at 3pm in the gym.
  • AA Boys Soccer – Game Day! Home Game at 4:15 against East Wiltshire. Boys, please meet in the gym at 3:30.
  • A girls Soccer – No practice today. Next practice is Monday from 3:15-4:30.

Grade 7 off Grounds Tomorrow

Hello everyone, tomorrow (Thursday) September 26th will be an off grounds day for grade 7 students. Over the course of the year we will offer the “off grounds” day to grade 7 students occasionally, so they can be better prepared for next year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact your child’s grade 7 homeroom teacher.

Terry Fox:

  • Terry Fox Run will take place this Thursday afternoon. Pledges are due today and pass all money into your HR teacher.
  • HR teacher will record individual pledge money and then money to the office.
  • Remember to bring in $3.00 to your homeroom teacher. $2 goes towards some fries and freezies, after the run, and $1 goes toward the Terry Fox Foundation.Please preorder with your homeroom teacher.

Duke of Edinburgh:

  • Meeting today in the Art room at 12:10 for all those going on the bike ride. Bring your lunch.

  • This coming Monday, September 30th.  This is an important event, as we are showing respect to those individuals who were mistreated at Residential Schools. Please wear orange!!!

2D Designer’s BootCamp Program:

  • Students who are interested in participating in GameForce: Designer’s BootCamp, 2D Video Game Development program, please sign up in Ms. Squire’s room, 221. It will run for five consecutive days for a period of two hours per day immediately following school. This is to determine interest. The start date will be announced at a later time.

Hockey Academy

  • Hockey Academy begins today for grade 8/9 students.  Please dismiss students at 1:30 to walt to Eastlink Center.

Volleyball:

  • Reminder that the first Gender & Sexuality Alliance meeting is today after school from 3-3:45pm.

Band:

  • Grade 7 band students meet at lunch today. Thank you to teachers for allowing these students to be dismissed at 11:45 for lunch.  Grade 7 band rehearsal begins at 12 noon.
  • Grade 8 band will be rehearsing at 7:45am on Thursday mornings.  These rehearsals will begin tomorrow morning.

  • Girls Volleyball – A try-outs today at 3:00
  • Congratulations to the Girls AA Volleyball team on finishing 3rd at the M.E. Callaghan tournament.  The team defeated Stonepark to advance to the semi’s, then came up a bit short to Queen Charlottetown to end up in the bronze medal game.  Cobras then defeated East Wiltshire to capture the bronze medal. Shout out to Alina Crockett on receiving the top offensive player of the tournament and Alanna Mabey for receiving a tournament all-star.  Way to go Cobra’s! Practice today at 4:30

  • Students are invited to join the first Gender & Sexuality Alliance meeting being held on Wednesday after school from 3-3:45pm. This is a student led group for any Birchwood student who wants to connect to peers and educate our school community about LGBTQ topics of interest.
