Boys Vball:

  • The boys defeated M.E. Callaghan last night to clinch a spot at provincials this weekend! All the boys plays well but it was Aiden Arsenault who solidified the victory by serving 14 points in a row.

Homework Club:

  • Homework club cancelled today due to Halloween

Outdoor adventure club:

  • Due to logistical difficulties, the outdoor adventure club activity after school will be canceled this week. The next meeting will be on Monday at lunch in Mr. Dohoo’s room.

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018 – Day 6

Library:

  • All library monitors are to meet in the library at break today.

Destination Imagination:

  • All students interested in taking part in this year’s STEM competition please go to Mr. Murphy’s foods room today at 12:10 to learn about the project based challenges being offered this year! This is your chance to be part of an exciting hands-on learning opportunity in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math and have the chance to represent PEI at a global competition!

Leadership:

  • Day 2 of our Spirit week here at Birchwood is twin day.  Please make sure that you tally your homeroom results and post them on your homeroom door.
  • Leadership students are having a bake sale during break today. Come and get your treats.

Grade 9 Trip:

  • The fry truck will be back tomorrow for the last time this year! Come out and get an order of fries for $2.

Music:

  • Jazz band rehearsal at lunch today has been cancelled.
  • Rock band tomorrow after school will be postponed until next Wed afternoon.
  • Grade 8 band will meet tomorrow morning at 7:45 for rehearsal.
  • Grade 7 band meets at noon tomorrow.

Boys VBall:

Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018 – Day 3

Soccer:

  • Girls’ AA soccer:  Good Luck to our GIRLS SOCCER team as they play the BRONZE Medal game today after school… Girls will meet in the gym at Break to discuss drives to the game.

Volleyball:

  • Boys’ Volleyball: The boys played their best game all year, fighting hard against East Wiltshire but couldn’t quite pull off the win. There will be no practice today.

Music:

  • Band:
    • Reminder to all grade 8 and 9 students of the concert tonight at Charlottetown Rural High School.  Please be in the CHRS cafeteria by 6:40 with your instrument and music. Concert dress as well. Also a reminder that band shirt money must be passed in to Mr. Langille right away for all band students in grade 7 and 8.

Outdoor club:

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018 – Day 2

Grade 7 Off Grounds:

  • Grade 7’s will have an off grounds day on Friday.

Scholastic Book Orders:

  • Scholastic book orders are available outside of Ms. Dunn’s room- 202- on the grade nine floor by the library. Pick up a flyer or two, and your order can help earn books for our library!! Different age ranges and themes to choose from. Pay online at http://scholastic.ca/canadaclubs searching Ms.Dunn to order, or pay at school. First order is due November 16th.

Soccer:

  • Girls’ AA soccer:  The girls lost a heartbreaker 2-0 to KISH last evening.  The coaches are very proud of the girls’ strong lay on defense and countless chances on offense.  No practice today. Bronze medal game tomorrow at Stonepark at 4pm. Meeting tomorrow (Thursday) at break to arrange drives.

Volleyball:

  • Girls’ Volleyball: The girls lost a nail biter vs East Wiltshire, pushing the match to 5 sets and narrowly losing.  Home game today vs Queen Charlotte at 4pm. Come out and support the girls!
  • Boys’ Volleyball: Big win last night against M.E. Callaghan! Game today @ Birchwood @ 5:30pm.

Basketball:

GSA Club:

  • The GSA Club will meet today at 12:20 pm in Room 236.  A GSA is a student run club for members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies.  The group aims to provide a safe, supportive environment for members to meet, support each other, discuss LGBTQ+ related topics and advocate for the community.  This club is open to any student or staff at Birchwood Intermediate School who are interested in joining. Please speak to Mrs. Forbes or Mrs. Munn if you have questions about the group.

  • In the library today, we are continuing to celebrate the importance of Canadian School Libraries. We are hosting a student body scrabble game. Everyone who comes to the library at lunch will receive a letter of the alphabet. The group of students who form the most creative word will receive a treat.

Baseball:  

  • Congratulations to the AA Provincial Champion Birchwood Cobras on a season that can only be described as dominant.  Going 7-0 with a 36 run differential over the 7 games.
  • The boys got better as the season went on, and the provincial playoffs serve as proof:  The boys put up an 8-1 Win in the Semi finals against QC and a 10-1 win in the finals against a good Summerside squad.  Congratulations Boys on a perfect season.

Field Hockey:

  • Ms. Holmes, Ms. McGillivray, and Ms. Walsh would like to thank all the girls for their hard work this season. Special recognition goes out to our grade 9 girls – Brooke Smith, Aleea Kirkam, Holly Coffin, and Jami Ward.  We hope to see you on the field at Rural next year. A big congratulations goes out to Brooke Smith who was named an allstar. Could the girls please meet in Mme. Walsh’s room at break.

Hockey Academy:

X-Country :   

  • Congrats to all X-country runners who travelled up to Mill River on the weekend.  Diviym Khubar, and Will Landry finished 3rd overall in their division. While Brooke Walsh finished 4th in the Bantam division.  Our girls team finished second.

  • This week at Birchwood, we are celebrating the importance of Canadian School Libraries. Today in the library we are celebrating our readers! “A READER TODAY, A LEADER TOMORROW.” Anyone who is found reading in our library today will be served a complimentary glass of hot chocolate.

  • Boys’ A soccer:  A boys lost a close Playoff game to Francois Buote yesterday… The Boys were led by captain Bandon Loppie and Zin Min !! Great Fight boys !!!!

Volleyball:

  • Girls’ Volleyball: Tough loss yesterday to Queen Charlotte.

  • The Expressions group will be meeting after school today from 3-4:30pm in the art room. This is a youth empowerment group that includes helping the community, reading stories, making friends, games and art. All students are welcome and can join in at any time.
